Fjords of Baffin Island
Located in the eastern arctic at the northern end of Baffin Island, the community of Pond Inlet is the point of departure for this northern adventure. At this latitude we’ll have continuous daylight giving us plenty of opportunity to photograph the mountainous landscape of the region.
Our intention for our first tour, August 15 - 28, is to explore the Fjordland area to the west of Pond Inlet. This stretch of coastline offers large viewscapes, impressive rock spire features, towering sun bathed ice bergs and deep fjords dotted with small islands; a perfect blend of the bold and the intimate. This is a serene but harsh landscape, visits to past Inuit camps will leave a strong impression of the past lives lived in this testing environment.
This is a point to point tour which will focus on coastal exploration, the possibility of seeing Narwhal, the potential of Arctic Char for dinner and of course fantastic hiking opportunities. We will depart Pond Inlet by chartered motorboat which will allow us to spend more time paddling, hiking and exploring in the most dramatic landscape of the Fjordland area.
Arctic travel is a unique and deeply textured experience, radically different from the life that most of us lead. The most difficult aspect of this trip is trying to find the words to describe it after you get back home.
