Book Review:
KABLOONA in the Yellow kayak, by Victoria Jason.
Kabloona is the Inuit word for "stranger".
This is an amazing first hand account of a 58 yr old woman's mostly solo journey of approximately 7,500km by kayak paddling along the Canadian Arctic coast fom Churchill Manitoba to Tuktoyuktuk. The account effortlessly kept my attention as I tore through the book in a couple days. I could relate so well to her experiences-I felt like I was there. Her descriptions of wildlife encounters with polar bears, grizzly bears, migrating geese, walrus and the obstacles and beauty of the ice strewn sea and land captured my imagination.

Fortunately, for safety's sake, it is extremely unlikey to see a polar bear on one of our Arctic sea kayak tours as they are mostly out on the sea ice hunting and traveling, away from land at that time of year.
A wonderfully inspirational read for any arctic kayaking trip!
